Haven of Hope Covenant Church Corporate Fast 2010We will begin our Annual Corporate Fast on Sunday, January 3rd with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm. We encourage you to participate in this powerful time of fasting and prayer held corporately with our covenant churches and partners. Last year we experienced breakthroughs, knowledge, wisdom, vision and revelation that can only come from the act of Prayer and Fasting (read Mark 9:25-26). New Testament scripture teaches that the believer is suppose to fast and that fasting will produce benefits that cannot be received by prayer alone.
What is Fasting? Fasting is voluntarily abstaining from something your flesh desires (i.e. food). The Hebrew word for fasting means “to cover” pertaining to the mouth. Fasting challenges your flesh to submit to God’s will even when it wants to do something else. Fasting has to do with letting your flesh know that you live off God’s Word better than you can food. God will bless you for your sacrifice. Fasting will produce great things not only for you but those connected to you. Is Fasting a Part of the New Testament? While there isn’t a scripture in the New Testament that gives a commandment to fast (such as in the Old Testament), Jesus has confirmed, instituted and solidified fasting through His statements: ¨ Luke 5:35 “but the days will come when the bridegroom is taken from them and they will fast in those days…” (That’s today!) ¨ Matthew 6:16 “Moreover when you fast..” (not “if” you fast)… God says that they (we) are going to automatically have fasting periods based upon the wisdom given to us in the Bible. What will we corporately be fasting from? Week 1- No meats Week 2- No meats and no sweets Week 3- No meats, sweets or breads
Your faith cannot be released on something you don’t understand – where there’s no understanding there’s nothing under your stand! For more information on fasting you may want to purchase a copy of the CD Series “Fasting is not Popular-But it’s Powerful.” On it you will hear teachings such as: The Benefits of Fasting, Partial vs. Super-Natural Fasting and answers to questions such as: “What happens if I eat something I shouldn’t?” “Should I tell anyone I am fasting?” and “Should I have my children join in the Fast?” Prayer is a vital part of the Corporate Fast. This year we will kick-off the fasting period with a Prayer Service on Sunday, January 3rd at 6:00pm and continue to gather for prayer each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6AM and 6PM during the fast. |
